The movie and the whole idea of the movie, to showcase what life was like for Elton John behind the scenes, is honestly amazing and I commend everyone who was involved with creating the master piece. Taron Egerton gave an outstanding performance in his portrayal of the character. Throughout the movie I often forgot that I wasn’t watching Elton play himself. I thought that the music was placed perfectly and that the songs actually fit with the flow of the story. There wasn’t a point during the movie that I thought the song was just being played for the sake of it. I particularly liked the use of I'm still standing towards the end. The meaning of the dong but also the recreation of the original move was a delight to watch. The raw emotion that was used throughout the movie was honestly amazing. I cannot believe that some of the things that were shown in the movie actually happened. It felt like they were happening right there and then and not years ago when we had no idea what was really going on. I'm so happy that none of Elton John's story was cut out because it wasn’t ‘socially acceptable’ the fact that it was all kept in and nothing was toned down to the point that it was a PG was brilliant and added to the whole movie. The movie all in all was beautifully created and everyone who was involved with creating it should be extremely proud of themselves. Rocketman is one of my favorite movies of 2019 and I would rate it a solid 10/10 :)

Personally, the movie was so highly anticipated that I am disappointed that it didn’t reach the level that it should have done. This however doesn’t mean that I thought it was a bad movie. Overall, I thought it was a good movie. The mix between horror and gore along with comedy worked really well and the casting was done perfectly. None of the comedy was misplaced and I honestly could believe that the actors playing the ‘losers club’ were older versions of the younger loser's club. There was a lot of flashbacks to the younger loser's club, which could have been included in the last movie, which took away from the story of the older characters. There wasn’t enough detail about why each of them returned and you only saw a few of them actually decide they had to go back. Some of the time wasted on flashbacks could have been used on the older club and their decisions. the description of Pennywise was very confusing and the details all seemed to muffle together and made no sense. I feel that that could have been touched on a little more.
I am glad that they kept the beginning of the movie as it was and didn't try to change any of the details. There are certain parts that needed to be kept to show that the motive of Pennywise had changed. The start scene showed that he no longer went for just children and he just went for people who were scared. This is a crucial part of the story that wouldn't make any sense if these kinds of scenes were removed. Overall i enjoyed the movie overall however having read the book I realised that a lot was missing and a lot of points didn't make sense. some of the scenes in chapter 2 should have just been in chapter 1. It felt that they were just wasting time adding in flashbacks. If I was to rate it out of 10 i would give it a 7 which is less then I would have given the first movie. |
