Ever since I fell in love with the movie, I have restricted myself to only watching it in the December. For me watching Gremlins starts Christmas off. It’s how I welcome in the Christmas month. The reason that I have restricted myself is because otherwise I would watch it every day of the month that’s how much I love this damn movie. Ever since I first watched it, I have loved it. Gizmo in his little Christmas hat humming along to billy playing the keyboard gives me all the festive vibes.
It may not be your traditional boy falls in love with girl, kiss under the mistletoe or your cheesy Christmas movie with some hidden meaning behind and Santa being real instead of just playing him. To be honest that is why I love it so much. Everyone that I know, and love hates gremlins for the very reason that I love it. Its your typical 80's movie with dodgy effects terrible camera quality and some actors that are questionable. I couldn’t ask for much more. Yes, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea but omg I love it and I always will. So while you are sat down by your tree watching It’s a Wonderful life just know that I will be sat watching Gremlins

Altogether I thought it was amazing, like honestly amazing. The casting was good the movie was well laid out, there wasn’t any point where I thought that time was just being wasted it all made sense that the scenes were needed to tell the story. Now we all know that the Joker is criminally insane but none of the other movies with him in really told us much about what happened, there was only snippets of his old life. This movie made him make sense. He was just a crazy man due to his childhood that later in life found out some information that made him even more insane...simple, I guess.
Anyway, going back to my opinion of the movie I thought that the way they made it fit with the previous batman movies was good. There were a few links to that that later made it clearer the timeline of the movie. I honestly have to praise Joaquin Phoenix for his portrayal of the Joker. He managed to make the Joker seem human whilst also so inhumane and only a great actor could do that. He also made me in some parts of the movie, like when he finds out he was adopted, honestly made me feel sorry for the Joker which has never happened before. Unlike the Joker in suicide squad it was very obvious that the Joker had had a very hard life and gone through a lot to get him to where he is whilst the suicide squad Joker just seemed inhumane. It was a little bit gorier than I would have thought it would be. I knew it would be because well it’s the Joker and he does a lot of messed up things but in the batman movies a lot of the deaths were off screen or just not as gory. In the Joker we saw him physically kill a lot of the characters and also a lot of the deaths were gruesome, scissors in the neck comes to mid here, and just very in your face. The ending also didn’t seem very important. Nothing really came to light with this scene and it just seemed out of place. It didn’t really end it because it made it like something else was going to happen but then also there didn’t seem to be any teasers as to what could be to come. Overall, I really did enjoy the Joker I would happily sit through it again if I had to. Its detailed and made things make more sense. The Joker has always been a favorite of mine and I'm so glad they gave him his backstory and made him make more sense. I'm very excited to see what's going to happen next. The movie and the whole idea of the movie, to showcase what life was like for Elton John behind the scenes, is honestly amazing and I commend everyone who was involved with creating the master piece. Taron Egerton gave an outstanding performance in his portrayal of the character. Throughout the movie I often forgot that I wasn’t watching Elton play himself. I thought that the music was placed perfectly and that the songs actually fit with the flow of the story. There wasn’t a point during the movie that I thought the song was just being played for the sake of it. I particularly liked the use of I'm still standing towards the end. The meaning of the dong but also the recreation of the original move was a delight to watch. The raw emotion that was used throughout the movie was honestly amazing. I cannot believe that some of the things that were shown in the movie actually happened. It felt like they were happening right there and then and not years ago when we had no idea what was really going on. I'm so happy that none of Elton John's story was cut out because it wasn’t ‘socially acceptable’ the fact that it was all kept in and nothing was toned down to the point that it was a PG was brilliant and added to the whole movie. The movie all in all was beautifully created and everyone who was involved with creating it should be extremely proud of themselves. Rocketman is one of my favorite movies of 2019 and I would rate it a solid 10/10 :)
Personally, the movie was so highly anticipated that I am disappointed that it didn’t reach the level that it should have done. This however doesn’t mean that I thought it was a bad movie. Overall, I thought it was a good movie. The mix between horror and gore along with comedy worked really well and the casting was done perfectly. None of the comedy was misplaced and I honestly could believe that the actors playing the ‘losers club’ were older versions of the younger loser's club. There was a lot of flashbacks to the younger loser's club, which could have been included in the last movie, which took away from the story of the older characters. There wasn’t enough detail about why each of them returned and you only saw a few of them actually decide they had to go back. Some of the time wasted on flashbacks could have been used on the older club and their decisions. the description of Pennywise was very confusing and the details all seemed to muffle together and made no sense. I feel that that could have been touched on a little more.
I am glad that they kept the beginning of the movie as it was and didn't try to change any of the details. There are certain parts that needed to be kept to show that the motive of Pennywise had changed. The start scene showed that he no longer went for just children and he just went for people who were scared. This is a crucial part of the story that wouldn't make any sense if these kinds of scenes were removed. Overall i enjoyed the movie overall however having read the book I realised that a lot was missing and a lot of points didn't make sense. some of the scenes in chapter 2 should have just been in chapter 1. It felt that they were just wasting time adding in flashbacks. If I was to rate it out of 10 i would give it a 7 which is less then I would have given the first movie. |
